musically speaking
Back from Texas but haven't had time to write. But I HAVE had time to shop around for some music to add to my iTunes library! (It's all about priorities.) So I'm looking for suggestions on movie scores or soundtracks that take your breath away, move you to tears, or make you want to dance. Any thoughts? What are your favorites?

Not a sound track or movie score, but for me it is Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite. Make sure you get a version that has the finale in it. Some don't.
Also Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite is incredible.
Tony
Shawshank Redemption, hands down.
Dirty Dancing. Top Gun. The Score to Mr. Holland's Opus, not the soundtrack.
Garden State- though you probably have it.
Munich- also a great movie.
Some other odds and ends:
Moby- I like to Score: make sure that you preview this album, as it is hit or miss.
Avalanches- Since I Left You
Evelyn Glennie- anything by her is worth your while, though it is a must to see her live.
Tony,
Right on with Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite.
Peace,

Getting off the scores and sound tracks request, here are some individual songs that would be worth picking up:
Sunny Day Realestate- "Tearing In My Heart"; Sarah and I were listening to this song as we were driving up to the North entrance of Yellow Stone park, with the sun setting behind the mountains (even before that, this song had a special place in heart).
Also, check out Motorcycle- "Traveling", I believe that that is the name of the song. There are two versions, and both are good. Though I imagine that most would prefer the regular mix, as opposed to the dance.
Still thinking about more possibilities, so I hope I'm clogging up your blog.

Hey guys - Thanks for all the suggestions! It's fun checking them out on iTunes, the ones I can find anyway.
Adam - Do you mean "Since I Left You" by the Avengers? Can't find a song with this title by the Avalanches...
A few of my "score" faves, with respective movies/shows in parentheses:
"Nara" (Cold Case) - E.S. Posthumous
"Opening Credits" (The Human Stain) - Rachel Portman
"Band of Brothers Requiem" (Band of Bros) - Michael Kamen
"The Black Pearl" and "The Medallion Calls" (Pirates of the Caribbean) - Klaus Badelt
"Lonesome Dove" (Lonesome Dove) - Basil Poledouris
No, it is the Avalanches.
my fave soundtracks are "until the end of the world" and "twin peaks" and "legends of the fall". lately my dad has been suggesting "the apostle" and especially "pearl harbor" but i haven't checked either of those out yet.
last of the mohicans
far and away
return to me
Six Feet Under Main Theme - Thomas Newman
Though nothing beats the opening montage that it plays to.
